Summer camps for kids in Alicante, Spain

Living with a Spanish family is one of the best ways to get to know the country, including its culture and its people. It will also allow students to practice the Spanish language in a natural way.

Families near the Spanish School

The majority of the host families live near the Spanish school, around 10 or 15 minutes walking. If children live more than 20 minutes walking, we provide them with bus tickets to go to the school. All the quarters of the city are connected to the centre by urban buses running every 10-15 minutes. A person from the host family or a group leader from Zador accompanies children to go to the School, the Sport Camp.

Families visited regularly by our staff

The families are selected and visited regularly by our staff. In all of them, students will find a warm atmosphere that will help them get integrated into the family and city life very quickly. Families usually —but not always— have children with a similar age to the students.

Living with a host family

Bed linen and towels: The family provides the bed linen and towels, but children must bring their own towels for the beach and the sport camp. Children taking part at the water sports camps must bring 2 or 3 towels. The rest of the campers have to bring a towel for the sport camp and at least another one for the beach.

Laundry: Twice a week. Please, bring enough clothes for the camp. You can consult a list at Useful Information.

Room: Children will have a single room more often, in a shared room with the child's family or other students. There is an extra cost, if you want a single room. The rooms are shared by students of the same sex and not more than five years of age difference.

Students with the same mother tongue: We offer the most often only one or two participants with the same language in a host family.

Shared rooms for friends or for two students from the same family coming together. This option is recommended for for younger kids and for children with a beginner or elementary Spanish language level. Two kids in the same family can help each other to break linguistic isolation, and develop mutual support. If your child wants to be hosted with a friend of the same sex, please specify on the form the name of the other participant.

Some rules : As in any family around the world, there are also a series of rules students must follow: be punctual to meal hours, let the host know if they are not having lunch or dinner at home, phone when arriving late... Students have to take into account that the house in Spain is considered a private family place. Therefore, if children want to have a guest over, they should ask permission, keeping in mind that in most cases the family will not fancy the idea.

Host families are representative of Spanish society. Families with or without children, retired couples without children... Many of the families selected have children. However, we cannot guarantee that your interest will be compatible in all respects. You must bear this in mind, since living with a Spanish family involves adjusting to different habits and life styles and you have to explain all of this to your kids.

You need to prepare your child to discover a country that has a different culture as his own.

Supervision: The majority of the host families live near the school, around 10 or 15 minutes walking. A person from the host family or a member of Zador staff accompanies kids to go to the School.

Phone calls and Internet: Children must use calling cards. The family should be notified if students want to make reverse charge calls. To receive phone calls the limited time is around 10.30 p.m. Internet and phone access varies by family.

Most families have access to the Internet and you can talk and see your child on Skype. However access to the Internet varies depending on the family.
